When people search for RS, RS Steel, or steel kambi in Sri Lanka, they usually mean this mill-backed supply. Learn more on About RS Steel, Steel products, and Contact.

Question 2

Question 3

What is RB500 reinforcement steel?

Accepted Answer

RB500 is a high-yield reinforcement steel grade with a minimum yield strength of 500 MPa, commonly used in reinforced concrete. RS Steel manufactures RB500 QST rebar for structural applications that need strength, ductility, and consistent performance across residential, commercial, and infrastructure work in Sri Lanka. Full guide: What is RB500?.

Question 4

Why is SLS 375:2009 important?

Accepted Answer

SLS 375:2009 sets quality, dimensional tolerances, and mechanical requirements for reinforcement steel in Sri Lanka. It supports structural reliability, consistent properties, and bonding in reinforced concrete. RS Steel aligns production with these requirements, and our RB500 QST reinforcement also satisfies the requirements of BS 4449:2005+A2:2009. See certifications, permits and approvals on our site, plus SLSI information for manufacturers for the standards framework.

Question 5

Why is weight consistency important in reinforcement steel?

Accepted Answer

Weight per metre reflects whether bars meet dimensional and material expectations. Underweight bar can under-deliver steel relative to design assumptions. RS Steel uses controlled rolling to support consistent bar mass across batches. Practical checks are summarised in How to identify high-quality reinforcement steel.

Question 6

How can I verify reinforcement steel quality on site?

Accepted Answer

Review the Mill Test Certificate (MTC), manufacturer markings, rib geometry, diameter, and weight per metre. Strong traceability from the supplier makes verification easier. Follow Verify genuine RS Steel, certifications and test reports,. The article How to identify high-quality reinforcement steel walks through documentation and on-site checks.

Question 7

Can reinforcement steel have surface rust?

Accepted Answer

Light surface rust is often acceptable if bond and section loss are not compromised. Reject bar with heavy flaking, deep pitting, or scaling before fixing steel. Store bar off the ground, drained, and covered where possible. For procurement and handling context, see How to identify high-quality reinforcement steel and Contact RS Steel for project-specific advice.

Question 8

Why should contractors buy reinforcement steel from trusted suppliers?

Accepted Answer

Established mills and authorised distributors hold controlled production, testing, and traceability, which reduces procurement risk. RS Steel focuses on consistent RB500 QST rebar backed by our quality & certifications. Use Find a distributor for network coverage and Contact for mill-direct enquiries.
